2 of many 7 Indians arrested in Texas in prostitution sting operation

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18 men, including seven Indians, from North Texas in a prostitution suppression sting operation. Two persons has been charged with soliciting a juvenile. The sting operation, supported by the Highland Village Police Department, was aimed at reducing the number of prostitutes in Denton County.

All of the Indians charged and arrested for the offense are of Telugu origin. They have been identified as Nikhil Bandi, Monish Galla, Nikhil Kummari, Jaikiran Mekala, and Karthik Rayapati. The charges filed against them include evading arrest and solicitation of prostitution. Of the 18 people who were taken into custody, two were detained on suspicion of soliciting prostitution from minors. Three individuals were taken into custody for avoiding arrest, and two others were accused of possessing illegal firearms.

Requesting the services of a prostitute for someone under the age of eighteen is a second-degree crime, while solicitation of prostitution is a state jail felony, according to the state law. Illegal carrying of a firearm and dodging arrest or detention are Class A misdemeanors. Following the operation, the Sheriff’s Office’s Human Trafficking Unit is currently investigating into other individuals who may be involved in prostitution.

“The Denton County Sheriff’s Office executed a Prostitution Demand Suppression Operation in Demon, Texas, on August 14 and I5, 2024. The operation was designed to suppress Prostitution in our community by arresting offenders attempting to purchase sexual favors for money. During the Operation, 14 persons were arrested on the charge of Solicitation of Prostitution which is a State Jail Felony. Two persons were arrested on the charge of Solicitation of Prostitution under 18 which is a 2nd Degree Felony. Two persons were also arrested on the additional charge of Unlawful Carrying Weapon. Three persons were also arrested on the charge of Evading Arrest Detention. Leads on other persons engaging in Prostitution were developed and are being followed up on by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office Human Trafficking Unit,” the Denton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
