2 young men of Indian origin killed in Jeep crash in Fresno

iNDICA News Bureau-

Two young men of Indian origin were killed on the spot while a third was grievously injured and a fourth is missing after the vehicle in which they were traveling crashed into an electricity pole near Island Water Park in Fresno, California, late Friday night, April 22.

The dead men were identified by the Fresno County coroner’s office Monday as Amit, 25, from India and Abhishek Choudhary, 22. It was not immediately clear whether Choudhary was a resident of India or the U.S.

The collision apparently took place at around 12:30 am Saturday near West Barstow and North Contessa avenues, when a dark-colored Jeep traveling north on Barstow rammed into a power pole.

The Fresno police said alcohol and speeding were factors that led to the crash.

Power to the area was knocked out as a result of the accident with about 1,500 customers of the Pacific Gas & Electric Company being affected by the outage.

Lt Ignacio Ruiz of the Fresno police told The Fresno Bee newspaper that officers found the badly damaged Jeep in the middle of the road with no occupants.

Police then initiated a search of the surrounding areas and eventually found Amit and Choudhary in a dirt field nearby. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The police lieutenant said a third man was also found in the area. He was conscious and breathing and was taken to hospital. His current status is not known.

Police continue to look for a fourth man who they believe was with the other three. A California Highway Patrol helicopter has been assisting in the search. Lt Ruiz said it was not clear yet who was driving the Jeep.
