The 2020 Census is underway and your participation is essential. While many of us shelter in place, now is a good time to complete your Census and be counted.
What is the Census?
The Census is held every ten years, this Census counts every person who is living in the United States. By now, you should have received an invitation to respond to a short online questionnaire. By law, every household is required to participate, and everyone in the household needs to be counted. Please rest assured that completing the Census is safe, confidential, and quick to complete. The Census is not going to ask for immigration status or social security number.
Why does the Census matter?
The Census provides critical data that helps determine representation and the allocation of billions of dollars in federal funding to our local community. Funding resulting from the Census supports hospitals, healthcare, schools, fire stations, roads, and other resources.
How do I participate?
- Locate your 12-digit Census ID number from the letter mailed to you by the US Census Bureau
- Go to https://my2020census.gov/ and select “Start Questionnaire”
- If you can’t find your letter from the Census Bureau, select “If you do not have a Census ID, click here”
- You can also respond to the Census over the phone by calling 844-330-2020
- Remember to count everyone living with you – family members, roommates, tenants, children, babies – everyone counts
