Millions light candles in India on PM Modi’s appeal ‘9 PM for 9 minutes’ to fight COVID-19

To further the spirit of unity in the time when the world is suffering from pandemic COVID-19 virus, people, politicians and tinsel town celebrities across India turned off the lights of their houses, lighted lamps and candles on Sunday, April 5.

Initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘9 pm, 9-min’ appeal to fight the coronavirus in the country that has infected over 3374 and rising each day and over 77 deaths.

President Kovind through twitter expressed his gratitude towards every Indian for showing resolve and resilience in the fight against COVID-19.

Both President and Prime Minister posted their photo on Twitter lighting the lamps and candles.

Celebrities Deepika Padukone, Raveena Tandon,Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut posted their photos lighting the candle on Twitter as well.

“Together we stand and together we will come out of this dark phase. Till then stay strong, stay safe #9Baje9Minute”  Bollywood star Akshay Kumar posted on Twitter.

This was the second appeal to the nation by Modi to keep its citizens motivated and stay calm.

He hosted Janta Curfew on March 22, where people were asked to ring bells or bang utensils to show their gratitude to those working on the front-lines.

Modi said that people may be feeling a sense of loneliness while in the lock-down period but they have to realize that they are not alone in the battle against the coronavirus and there is a collective strength of 130 crore Indians.
