iNDICA NEWS BUREAU-
Alka Mittal, director for human resources at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), India’s
largest petroleum and gas exploration company has been given additional charge as chairperson.
Mittal was appointed to the post by the department of personnel and training of the government of
India Jan 3, 72 hours after it fell vacant with the superannuation of Subhash Kumar, who, too, was
holding additional charge as chairperson since last February.
Subhash Kumar was director for finance at the company when he was chosen to head it.
Mittal will hold the post for six months or until a new chairperson is appointed, whichever is earlier.
She is only the second woman to hold the reins of a petroleum major in India after Nishi Vasudeva,
who was appointed to head of Hindustan Petroleum Corp in 2014.
A post-graduate in economics with a doctorate in commerce, Mittal joins the ranks of Vicki Hollub,
who became CEO of Occidental Petroleum in 2016, and Linda Cook, who heads Premier Oil-Chrysaor
Holding plc, the largest producer of North Sea oil.
