Global Organization of People of Indian Origin – Connecticut Chapter (GOPIO-CT) held its annual ‘Hope in Motion Walk and Run Fundraiser’ earlier this month.
The Hope in Motion Walk, now in its 27th year, raises funds to help cancer patients undergoing treatment at the Stamford Hospital.
Over 500 people attended the event at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center on June 5.
This year GOPIO-CT donated about $2,300 to the Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Health, the organization said in a press release.
The proceeds from the charity event would go into providing a broad range of supportive services at no charge to cancer patients in need, the press release stated further.
Many Indian-origin community members and others attended the event including Ambrish Mathur, Dr Thomas Abraham, Alka Banerjee, Anita Mathur, Sangeeta Ahuja and Paul Ahuja.
Several cancer survivors were also present at the event.
Over the last 16 years, GOPIO-CT, a chapter of GOPIO International has become an active and dynamic organization hosting interactive sessions with policy makers and academicians, community events, youth mentoring and networking workshops, and working with other area organizations to help create a better future.
GOPIO-CT – Global Organization of People of Indian Origin – serves as a non-partisan, secular, civic and community service organization – promoting awareness of Indian culture, customs and contributions of PIOs through community programs, forums, events and youth activities.
The organization seeks to strengthen partnerships and create an ongoing dialogue with local communities. The chapter financially supports several service organizations in Connecticut.
