“Strongest bilateral partnership ever,” says Secretary Blinken as 2+2 dialog begins

As the fifth India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialog begins in New Delhi, the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has described the partnership between the two countries as the “strongest ever.” “It is always wonderful to be here in India. We are building a remarkable year of engagement…We have not only the strongest bilateral partnership we’ve ever had, but also a regional one, and indeed, a global one that was further evidenced by India’s leadership for the G20 this year,” Blinken said.

Antony Blinken to visit India for 2+2 Ministerial Dialog this month

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will embark on a five-nation visit, concluding with India to participate in the 2+2 Ministerial Dialog in November, the State Department informed in a statement. Blinken will be visiting Israel, Jordan, Japan, South Korea and lastly, India. During his visit to India, Blinken will be accompanied by US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin. The US delegation will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior Indian officials to discuss both bilateral and global concerns and developments in the Indo-Pacific.

Paralympics: India’s medal tally swell to 24 as archer Harvinder, club thrower Dharambir clinch gold

Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Harvinder Singh made history for India by winning the gold medal in the Men’s Individual Recurve Open, becoming the first Indian archer to win a gold medal in the Paralympic Games. With a consistent and rock-solid performance, Harvinder bagged the gold medal by blanking Lukasz Ciszek of Poland 6-0 in the final on Wednesday, September 4.

The medal tally also rose to 24 as club thrower Dharambir finished at the top with a 34.92m throw.

Paris Paralympics: With five medals in a day, India surpasses Tokyo edition’s record of 19 medals; haul touches 20

India para-athletes have scripted history in Paris by surpassing their highest medal tally of 19 in the Tokyo edition of the Paralympics three years ago. The Indian contingent has added 20 medals to its constantly growing tally and will have an opportunity to further extend its record medal haul in a single edition of the Paralympics.

On Monday and Tuesday, the Indian contingent won 13 medals for the country, jumping the medal tally to a record 20, consisting of three gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals.

India’s Preethi Pal scripts history in track & field with bronze in 200m T35 at Paris Paralympics

Preethi Pal scripted history after winning the bronze medal in the women’s 200m T35 in the ongoing 2024 Paralympics Games as she became the first Indian woman athlete to win two medals in track & field in the coveted event.

Preethi clocked the personal best timing of 30.01 seconds to finish behind the Chinese duo of Xia Zhou and Guo Qianqian, who bagged gold and silver respectively with a timing of 28.15 seconds and 29.09 seconds.

Moody’s increases India’s GDP growth forecast to 7.2% for 2024

New York-based Moody’s Ratings on Thursday, August 29, raised its forecast for India’s GDP growth for 2024 to 7.2% from 6.8% as projected earlier on the back of stronger private consumption driving up aggregate demand in the economy.

“Household consumption is poised to grow as headline inflation eases toward the RBI’s target. Indeed, signs of a revival in rural demand are already emerging on the back of improving prospects for agricultural output amid above-normal rainfall during the monsoon season,” the global rating agency said.
