India on track to become one of biggest chip hubs in 5 years: Ashwini Vaishnaw

India has commissioned four semiconductor manufacturing units, and in the next five years, the country will become one of the biggest hubs in the world, Union Railways and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. In a wide-ranging interview with IANS, the Union Minister said that in the coming years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation for the further growth of the industry that will create thousands of jobs.

India’s first bullet train set to run in 2026: Railways Minister

Significant progress has been made in the construction of various stations for India’s first bullet train and we are geared up to run the first train in one section in 2026, Union Railways and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday. In an interview with IANS, the Union Minister said the work on bullet trains is progressing very well on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai route. “More than 290 km of work has already been done. Bridges have been built over eight rivers. Work is going on at 12 stations. The stations have also come at the same level so that the work is nearing completion,” Vaishnaw said.

Indian Cabinet approves chip fab plant by Tata Group & Taiwan’s PSMC in Gujarat

In a fillip to the country’s goal to become a global semiconductor hub, India’s Union Cabinet on Thursday approved chip fabrication plants by Tata Group and Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) in Dholera district, Gujarat. Tata JV will make India’s first semiconductor fab with a capacity of 50,000 wafers per month, according to Union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Google says it will help Indian Govt develop responsible AI

American tech giant Google on Thursday said it is committed to share its expertise and knowledge with the Indian Government and industry stakeholders towards developing responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI). The company’s statement came after Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw met representatives from large social media platforms and other stakeholders, saying the government will draft new rules to spot and limit the spread of deepfakes.

Indian govt okays $180 mn Digital India expansion

The Union Cabinet of India on Wednesday approved the expansion of the Digital India program with an outlay of ₹14,903 crore or $180 million. India’s Minister for Railway, Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, while addressing a press conference after the meeting of the Union Cabinet, said that 625,000 IT professionals will be re-skilled and up-skilled under FutureSkills Prime program.

HPE to manufacture high-volume servers in India

Hewlett Packard Enterprise of the US announced plans to begin manufacturing some of its high-volume servers in India. Som Satsangi, SVP and managing director, HPE India, along with Puneet Agarwal, CEO, VVDN technologies met Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, to share details of the initiative.

Indian parliamentary committee to summon Meta officials over Zuckerberg’s remarks

Nishikant Dubey, the Chairman of India’s Parliamentary Committee on Communications and Information Technology, has said that the committee will summon Meta officials and they will have to apologise or action will be taken against them after Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg made statement about “atmosphere” against government, where he mentioned about India.

Speaking to ANI, the BJP MP called Zuckerberg’s statement “alarming”. He said such a statement shows that Zuckerberg is interfering in India’s democracy.

iPhone created 175K direct jobs in 4 years, production reached $10 bn in India in April-Oct

Riding on the Indian government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, Apple’s iPhone production in the country has reached $10 billion in the seven months of this fiscal (FY25), with $7 billion in exports alone which is a record, the Centre said on Monday.

The tech giant manufactured/assembled $14 billion of iPhones in India last fiscal (FY24), with exporting more than $10 billion worth of iPhones.

Modi 3.0 ministers take oath, 30 cabinet ministers, including NDA partners

Narendra Modi took oath for his third term as Prime Minister along with 72 ministers including 30 Cabinet Ministers of the new coalition government in the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. Modi seems to have done a balancing act by including his NDA partners in the cabinet.

Modi government has representation from different social groups and corners of the country. It has 27 ministers from Other Backward Classes, 10 from Scheduled Castes, 5 from Scheduled Tribes, and 5 from minorities. The Modi Cabinet includes several former chief ministers, 34 ministers who have served in state legislatures, and 23 MPs who have worked as ministers in states.
