A 54-year-old Indian-origin man and six other co-conspirators have been sentenced to prison for their role in a multimillion-dollar Covid-19 relief fraud and misusing public funds to buy houses and expensive cars like Lamborghini and Porsche during pandemic. Pardeep Basra was sentenced this week to three years and five months in prison after he pled guilty to his role in “one of the largest” Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) fraud ring led by Amir Aqeel.

US govt announces $600 mn in Covid tests manufacture

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced an investment of $600 million in the manufacture of new at-home Covid-19 tests and will deliver the tests for free to households across the country. The critical investments in 12 US manufacturers in seven states “will strengthen our nation’s production levels of domestic at-home Covid-19 rapid tests and help mitigate the spread of the virus”, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said in a statement.
