Indian government allocates Rs 1,000 crore venture fund for space startups: Minister

The Indian government on Sunday, October 6, said it has earmarked Rs 1,000 crore for venture fund to space startups, an indication of high priority that the government gives to the space sector.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, said the decision was taken within first 100 days of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi 3.0 government.

PM Modi unveils three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers to boost India’s research and development

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers and High-Performance Computing systems to India. These systems have been installed in Delhi, Pune, and Kolkata, respectively.

“These supercomputers will go a long way in ensuring that India’s scientists have access to state-of-the-art facilities,” the Prime Minister said. “The three supercomputers launched today will help in advanced research from physics, earth science, and cosmology.”

India cabinet approves space station, Chandrayaan-4, Venus mission

The Union Cabinet of India approved India’s first space station Bharatiya Anatriksh Station by extending the scope of the Gaganyaan program. It also approved the Chandrayaan-4 mission, to land on the moon, collect samples for analysis and return to earth.

“Great news for the space sector! The Union Cabinet has approved the first step towards the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), expanding the Gaganyaan program! This landmark decision brings us closer to a self-sustained space station by 2035 and a crewed lunar mission by 2040!” Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X on Wednesday, September 18.

Indian Air Force wing commander selected for Indo-US Mission to Space Station

An Indian Air Force Wing Commander has been selected as the prime astronaut for the upcoming Indo-US mission to the International Space Station (ISS), the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced.

The IAF Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla has been selected by a National Mission Assignment Board as the prime candidate and Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair as his backup. “The assigned crewmembers will be finally approved to fly to the International Space Station by the Multilateral Crew Operations Panel (MCOP),” the ISRO said in a statement.

India’s Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, said the country is set to witness the first human in space and deep sea by 2025. Singh made the statement at an event held in the national capital on Thursday, July 4.

“Four astronauts — three Group Captains and one Wing Commander — have been selected for India’s human space mission Gaganyaan,” the minister said. The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Gaganyaan mission aims to send a manned three-day mission to space, which will orbit 400 kms above Earth and will return.

Chandrayaan-3: Scientists and engineers behind India’s successful moon mission

The scientists and engineers were confident of soft-landing the country’s moon lander on the lunar soil, a ‘Mission Possible’ after the failure of Chandrayaan-2. Incidentally, unlike the Chandrayaan-2 mission, where a couple of women were in a lead role — with Project Director M. Vanitha and Mission Director Ritu Karidhal Srivastava — this time around it was an all-male club. In Chandrayaan-3, the Mission Director was Mohan Kumar and the Vehicle/Rocket Director was Biju C. Thomas.
