Agencies, Universities, Student orgs must address spike in deaths of Indian origin students in the US: FIIDS

The Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) has appealed to government agencies, various universities across the country, as well as nationwide student organizations to come together and address the spike in the death of Indian-origin students in the United States. FIIDS said that over a span of four to five months, a spike in deaths of Indian students in the United States has raised significant concerns among the Indian American community as well as Indian population.

Columbia University initiates suspensions for students as pro-Palestine protests spark clashes

Columbia University in New York has taken action to suspend student protesters who remained at the on-campus encampment past the administration’s 2 pm ET deadline, CNN reported. According to the university, these students will face consequences such as ineligibility to complete the semester or graduate, as well as restrictions from university housing and academic facilities.

Scores turn up to pay their respects to Californian Indian American family that perished in car crash

Friends, neighbors, colleagues, students, teachers, the school principal and almost the entire community gathered by the dozens at Val Vista Community Park, Pleasanton, California to remember the Indian American family that was killed in a horrific car crash on April 24. Flowers, candles, balloons and photos of victims were laid for all to pay their respects.

Illinois Police say Indian American student froze to death in January after club denied him entry

Akul Dhawan, an Indian-origin student at Illinois University, died last month after freezing to death near a club that refused him entry during a night out with friends, according to police officials. The parents of the 18-year-old Indian American student, have filed a complaint with the University of Illinois Police and questioned the police about their search and the protocol they followed during the search.

Indian-origin family of 4 found dead in New Jersey in suspected murder-suicide

An Indian-origin family of four has been found dead in New Jersey in what officials suspect to be a case of murder-suicide, police said. 
Police in Plainsboro who went to their home on Wednesday evening responding to a request to check on their welfare found them dead, County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said. She identified the dead as Tej Pratap Singh, 43, Sonal Parihar, 42, their 10-year-old son and six-year-old daughter.
