Indian American congresswoman Pramila Jayapal: 2024 presidential election in great trouble for Biden

Indian American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal fears that the 2024 election is in “great trouble” for President Joe Biden with new polls showing him trailing Republican Donald Trump in multiple battleground states. Jayapal’s remarks came after a New York Times and Siena College poll showed Biden trailing former President Trump in five out of six battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada and Pennsylvania.

Pramila Jayapal, three other US Reps introduce legislation to protect immigrant survivors of violence

Four U.S. Representatives introduced the Working for Immigrant Safety and Empowerment (WISE) Act to protect immigrant survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and gender-based violence. The bill would ensure that immigrants have access to protections intended by the bipartisan Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Trafficking Victim Protection Act (TVPA), and other federal and state laws. The bill will also ensure survivors pursuing relief are not detained or deported before their applications are fully adjudicated.

Pro-Israel leaders may oppose Susheela Jayapal’s Congressional bid

Pro-Israel lobbyists in the US state of Oregon may oppose the candidacy of Indian American Susheela Jayapal from the state’s 3rd Congressional District, a media report said. The elder sister of Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, Susheela announced last month that she was looking to succeed Representative Earl Blumenauer from the District, which includes parts of Portland, and is a Democratic stronghold.

United States Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Representative Joe Wilson introduced the bipartisan South Asian Heart Health Awareness and Research Act, landmark legislation to raise awareness about the alarming rate of heart disease for South Asians across the United States and also to put resources and strategies toward reversing this deadly trend for all communities. U.S. Senator Cory Booker plans to introduce companion legislation later this year. In the 117th Congress, this legislation was passed by the full House of Representatives before being blocked in the Senate. The bill is also supported by President Biden.
