AAPM launches an ‘open invitation’ hackathon to discover innovative solutions for COVID-19

Many countries are slowly starting to emerge from lockdown and they are being forced to confront the hard realities of a world with COVID-19.

In a time like this, innovative solutions to adapt to a new reality is critical. That’s why the American Association of Precision Medicine (AAPM) is hosting a global COVID-19 healthcare solutions hackathon on June 26 through June 29.

This virtual hackathon has been organized to create an environment in which students, academics and industry professionals come together to identify and address pandemic-related issues and brainstorm solutions.

AAPM’s Coronavirus Taskforce (ACT) is inviting data scientists, software engineers, healthcare professionals, domain experts, hackers, data curators, UX designers, digital health experts, entrepreneurs, startups, and other community members.

ACT2HACK hackathon is designed to bring the community together and serve as a leading forum for new medical breakthroughs as well as cutting-edge basic, translational, and clinical research.

AAPM CEO Dr. Prasun Mishra, “Although the pandemic has disrupted our lives, it has accelerated innovation and collaboration in unprecedented ways.”

“This hackathon calls for teams to hack various COVID-19 data sets. An important part of the event will be strategic planning sessions to build solutions that will define the new norm. Every day we hear of someone who has lost their brother, sister, mother, father, friend or loved one.

“This is an open invitation to all to join forces and accelerate the pace of innovation by the collaboration to save lives.” added Mishra.

In reports AAPM will be focusing on four key points in this hackathon.

  • Identify data and sources for certifying safe spaces
  • Analyzing Global Clinical COVID-19 data
  • Analyzing Social Media Data for predicting hot-spots
  • Data from Home: Remote patient monitoring

Each of these areas will be led by a distinguished member of the AAPM.
