The American India Foundation (AIF) at its Bay Area Gala held at San Francisco City Hall on April 1, has broken all past records.
This is the highest-ever amount raised by the foundation for its humanitarian mission in India. In 2022, AIF raised US$2.1 million.
“And that’s a wrap for our first 2023 gala in the Bay Area on April 1 at the beautiful San Francisco City Hall. It was an absolute pleasure to honor Raj Mathai, NBC Bay Area News Anchor, and to have Vivek Ranadivé as our 2023 Gala Chair. We closed the night raising $ 2.2 million–the highest-grossing Bay Area gala in AIF history! Congratulations and thank you! We couldn’t have done it without our gala supporters and sponsors, CA Board, and the entire Global Board for their continued and generous support!”: AIF tweeted after the successful event.
The American India Foundation is committed to improving the lives of India’s underprivileged, with a special focus on women, children, and youth. AIF does this through high-impact interventions in education, health, and livelihoods to deal with poverty and its multidimensional aspects.
AIF’s unique value proposition is its broad engagement between communities, civil society, and expertise, which helps build a lasting bridge between the United States and India. With offices in New York and California, twelve chapters across the US, and India operations headquartered in Delhi NCR, AIF has impacted 6.7 million lives across 26 states of India.
The 12-time Emmy Award winner, Mathai, was honored by AIF at the gala. Kerala-born Mathai moved with his family to Palo Alto when he was 7 years old. After attending Los Altos High School, he graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in journalism and political science. Mathai joined the NBC affiliate station in San Francisco in 1998 as Sports Director and became the primary news anchor in 2011.
