Indian telecom major Bharti Airtel has acquired 10 percent stake in Lattu Media, a Mumbai-based educational technology startup, though it did not disclose the valuation.
The investment was made as part of the Airtel Startup Accelerator Program. Lattu Media or Lattu Kids is the fourth company to join the program after Voicezen, Spectacom Global and Vahan.
Lattu Kids specializes in digital learning tools for children. Its app focuses on improving English language and maths skills for children under age 10 through animated videos and games.
Airtel said in a statement that the investment would enable it to add edtech to its “premium digital content portfolio and give distribution scale to quality learning material from Lattu Kids”.
Airtel said it has over 160 million monthly active users across its digital platforms Airtel Thanks app, Airtel Xstream app and Wynk Music.
Lattu Kids was formed in 2018 by ex-Star India vice-president and head of content syndication, Vivek Bhutyani.
India’s edtech industry will cross $2 billion in size by 2021, according to news agency PTI.
