Anti-immigration group lauds Supreme Court’s decision allowing Trump on wall funding

indica News Bureau-

The Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), a conservative nonprofit organization that focuses on immigration reform, has praised the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision that paves the way for the Trump administration to use funds budgeted from the Defense Department to build a wall on the nation’s southern border with Mexico.

“The anti-borders advocates can try to spin this, but the ruling is a huge win for President Trump and his America First immigration policies,” Dale L. Wilcox, executive director and general counsel of IRLI, said in a news media release. “The situation at the border is a matter of national security, and the chief executive is empowered to address it. The Court made the right decision.”

Last week, the Supreme Court ruled Trump could use $2.5 billion from Defense Department funding to build the wall on the U.S. southern border with Mexico, according to published reports. The Trump administration has said the wall is necessary to protect national security.

The court’s decision in Trump v. Sierra Club lifted an injunction from a California district court that was upheld in the Ninth Circuit.

The IRLI has been advocating for Defense Department funds to be used for wall, according to the news release.  Earlier this month, the organization filed an emergency brief in the Supreme Court on behalf of Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) in support of the government’s request to have the injunction lifted and thus enabling the funds to be used for the wall.

The IRLI is  the supporting organization of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, “a non-partisan, public interest organization” that “evaluates policies, seeking out solutions that help reduce the negative impact of uncontrolled immigration on the nation’s security, economy, workforce, education, healthcare and environment.” According to the group’s website.

FAIR has called for stricter regulations on immigration and a moratorium on immigration until comprehensive reform has been enacted and implemented.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has declared FAIR an anti-immigration hate group with “ties to white supremacist groups and eugenicists,” according to the SPLC website.
