Anurag Kashyap, co-director of the Netflix India original series Sacred Games, and Vikram Chandra, author of the eponymous novel on which the crime thriller is based, will discuss the journey of taking a book to the screen at a special event at the Carriage House Theatre in Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, California, Friday.
The event marks the culmination of the first South Asia Literature & Art Festival (SALA 2019) organized by the Montalvo Arts Center and Art Forum SF in collaboration with the University of California, Berkeley, Institute for South Asia Studies this month.
Sacred Games has been nominated for an International Emmy in the Drama category this year. The first season of the crime thriller was directed by Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane.
Tipu Purukayastha’s conversation with Kashyap and Chandra is scheduled to take place 7:30 pm and will touch upon the topics of Chandra’s inspiration, the challenges of adapting a book into a web-series, and the vision needed to bring a story to life.
Kashyap’s prominence in Indian cinema grew with the two-part crime drama, Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012). Since then he has also been associated in different capacities with films like The Lunchbox (2013), Shahid (2013), Bombay Talkies (2013), Ugly (2014), Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016), Mukkabaaz (2018) and Manmarziyaan (2018). He has been co-founder of two film production companies, Anurag Kashyap Films and Phantom Films.
