Austrian Princess Maria Galitzine passed away in Houston on Friday. The princess was married to Indian-origin chef Rishi Roop Singh. According to Fox News, the princess passed away after suffering from a “sudden cardiac aneurysm” at the age of 31. Maria Singh nee Princess Maria Galitzine and Rishi Roop Singh got married in April 2017. She is survived by her husband and a two-year-old son, reported Fox news.

Six days before her 32nd birthday, Princess Maria Galitizine passed away due to a fatal cardiac aneurysm – a rupture of the heart’s blood vessel – on May 4. An interior designer by profession, Maria had met Roop Singh while working in Houston. She is the daughter of Princess Maria-Anna and Prince Piotr Galitzine. Four days after her death, she was laid to rest at the Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.

Her tragic death was published in an obituary in The Houston Chronicle, in which her son Maxim was described as the ‘apple of her eye’.

The obituary read, “Our Maria passed away in the Houston morning of Monday, May 4th, 2020, from a sudden cardiac aneurysm. She was born in 1988 to Prince and Princess Piotr Galitzine in the city of Luxembourg, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. She returned with the family to Russia as a five-year old in 1993, attending the German School of Moscow. Upon graduation she moved to Belgium to attend the CAD school. Afterwards she lived and worked in Brussels, Chicago and Houston, specializing in interior design and furnishing.”

The obituary also described about her marriage. “She had just founded a family with Rishi Roop Singh, a renowned Houston chef, and their two-year old son Maxim was the apple of her eye. She is additionally survived by her sisters Xenia Galitzine de Matta, Tatiana Galitzine Sierra and Princess Alexandra, her brothers, Princes Dmitri and Ioann and her parents, Princess Maria-Anna (born Archduchess of Austria) and Prince Piotr Galitzine,” it added.

Princess Maria’s father, Prince Piotr Galitzine is a Russian aristocrat, her mother, Maria Anna is the daughter of the Archduke Rudolf of Austria.

Born in 1988 in Luxembourg, Maria had shifted to Russia when she was 5-years-old. After her graduation, the European royal shifted to Belgium to attend the College of Art and Design, as per Fox News.

Maria had royal blood on both sides of her family. She was a great-granddaughter of the last emperor and empress of Austria, Karl and Zita, the Habsburg dynasty that ruled parts of Europe for nearly 600 years. They were deposed in 1918 at the end of World War I. Maria’s mother is Princess Anna Maria Galitzine, an archduchess, and her father, Prince Piotr Galitzine, is part of Russian aristocracy; royals there fled the country in the Russian Revolution, the Chronicle reported.

Despite Maria’s impressive lineage, her background wasn’t typical compared to other royals. Maria worked as an interior designer in Houston where Singh is a renowned executive chef. In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Tatiana revealed that she and Maria didn’t grow up like typical royals (think Prince William and Prince Harry). “My life is completely normal unless we are invited to royal weddings,” she explained. “As children, every summer, we had to do charity work,” Tatiana told the Houston Chronicle in a follow-up chat. “It was as normal for us as brushing our teeth.” According to Maria’s sister, Tatiana, who told the Chronicle: “My life is completely normal unless we are invited to royal weddings. My mail sometimes says ‘Princess Tatiana.’ What was weird was when I went from ‘Princess’ to ‘Mrs.’ I had been a princess all my life.”

In addition to Rishi, Maxim, her sister Tatiana, and her parents, Maria is survived by sisters Xenia Galitzine de Matta and Princess Alexandra, and her two brothers, Prince Dmitri and Prince Ioann.
