Bollywood veteran Dilip Kumar passes away at 98


Legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar has passed away due to an age-related illness at 7:30 am (IST), July 7.

He was 98 and took his last breath at the PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, India.

The veteran actor was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Hinduja Hospital, Khar, on June 29, after reportedly complaining of breathlessness. However,  the actor’s wife, actress Saira Banu Khan, issued a statement late on Monday, July 6 updating about his improving health stated: “We are grateful for God’s infinite mercy on Dilip Sahib that his health is improving. We are still in hospital and request your prayers and duas so that Insha’Allah he is healthy and discharged soon. Saira Banu Khan.”

But Faisal Farooqui, a family friend of Kumar tweeted, July 7(IST) morning: “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return.”

Sending his condolence, Prime minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and innumerable admirers. RIP.”
