An Indian American company based in California has been playing its part in spreading hope and goodwill during these tough times of an enraged pandemic in the state.
Guru Nanda, a manufacturer of premium farm-to-home aromatherapy and other health and wellness products, has donated over 6.5 million masks to various charities and non-profits across the country, notes a press release on Monday, January 11.
Recipients include the San Antonio Hospital Foundation in Upland, CA; Local Hearts Foundation; Oklahoma City-based Feed the Children; Social Security Works Education Fund’s Masks for America Project; MedVets; and Carson, CA-based St. Philomena Catholic School.
In addition to the masks, the company has also donated more than total of 160,000 sets of toothpaste and toothbrushes to the organizations.
“It is incumbent on all of us as individuals, corporations, and global citizens to do everything we can to help stop the spread of COVID-19,” said Puneet Nanda, founder of Guru Nanda.
“As a longtime Southern California manufacturing company, we have the wherewithal to provide massive quantities of masks, and we are proud to work with so many esteemed charitable partners to deliver them to those that need them most,” he said.
The spread of the virus in California has been on the gas pedal with death tolls reach new heights every day. According to data collected by Johns Hopkins University, California’s COVID-19 death toll reached 30,000 on Monday.
Public health officials have estimated about 12% of those who catch the virus will require hospital care, usually several weeks after infection as they get sicker.
Gov. Gavin Newsom and public health officials are counting on widespread vaccinations to help stem the tide of new infections, starting with medical workers and the most vulnerable elderly, such as those in care homes.
Meanwhile, efforts like Guru Nanda’s donations help slow the spread as much as it can. Call it corporate social responsibility or plain goodwill, people of California require all the help it needs from every one of its citizens.
