The sixth International Yoga Day is just a few days away, and just in time for you to learn yoga more profoundly from the comfort of your home.
A ‘first’ of its kind yoga university in the US has announced that it will launch of an online master’s program in the subject.
Vivekananda Yoga University (VaYU) in California is the world’s first yoga university outside India.
“In following the pioneering tradition set by Swami Vivekananda who brought yoga to the West in 1893, we are bringing a vision of a holistic approach to yoga with its applications supported by modern scientific research,” said Dr H R Nagendra, chairman, Board of Trustees of VaYU.
California Bureau of Private & Postsecondary Education has provisionally approved VaYU to operate as a university and offer the MS (Yoga) degree, said Nagendra during a virtual launch ceremony.
In a time when there is so much confusion around the world, and within our minds, and especially when we are locked in our homes, this course could offer the tools to handle any difficult situations we may face.
The course offered by the university is a cohort-based four-semester program with 30 credits. It is specially designed for working professionals as well as those seeking advanced knowledge of yoga.
Students will get personal, hands-on training in Asanas (postures), Kriya (purification techniques), Mudras (hand locks and gestures), Bandhas (knots), Pranayama (controlled breathing), and Dhyana (meditation). And, on the 15th week of the fall semester, students will attend a week-long Personal Training Program (PTP).
The students will be taught by highly-accomplished, and world-renowned teachers. Prof. Sree N. Sreenath, Founder President, VaYU said, “Whether you run your own yoga studio or work for one, whether you are a healthcare professional or work in the hospitality industry, whether you are looking for career enhancement or a seeker serious enough to satisfy your curiosity, this graduate program in yoga is for you.”
The university said that applications for fall 2020 semester are open with the first day of classes starting on August 24.
