The Covid-19 pandemic has overshadowed all celebrations, festivals, and holidays, but it did not prohibit Indian Americans in a suburb of Sacramento, the capital of California, from celebrating Diwali in their own style.

More than 100 Indian Americans dressed in traditional Indian clothes, with children and family waving, cheering, showcasing their cars with decorated lights in Roseville at 6pm November 8 to celebrate Diwali. Many passersby joined in the celebrations as well.

Diwali is the Festival of Lights which is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists. It symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

The Sacramento chapter of Sewa also celebrated the Diwali parade of lights in Roseville. Despite the 100-year record extreme cold weather, Indian Americans came from Sacramento suburban cities including Elk Grove, Folsom, Orangevale, Rancho, Rocklin, and Roseville, with their vehicles decorated.

On the occasion, Sewa received more than 50 pounds of canned food donations through a Diwali food drive and donated the food collected to the local food bank. Sewa thanked local business Reliance Supermart for providing sweets to all the parade participants.
