Renowned peace activist and professor emeritus at California State University at Fresno, Sudarshan Kapoor is delighted at the celebrations that accompanied the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, but was disappointed that his home town could not celebrate on account of a “perceived threat of violence by separatist elements within our Indian community.”
Dabbala Rajagopal “Raj” Reddy, born 10 years before India’s independence, is an Indian-American computer scientist and a winner of the prestigious Turing Award. Prof Reddy is a pioneer of artificial intelligence and has served on the faculty of Stanford and Carnegie Mellon universities for over 50 years.
In a video message from Chicago, Pitroda said: “On this August 15, I wish to share with you my personal observations, my journey, my hopes and aspirations for India. When India became independent, I was about 5 years old. I am telling you about my story because my story is the story of India and story of millions like me.”

Delhi Police installed over 1,000 high-resolution CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the Red Fort to monitor and prevent any threat. India’s capital is currently under heavy security cover after intelligence agencies received inputs of a possible terror attack in the wake of Independence Day.
The Prime Minister also said that India has been home to great thinkers like Vivekanand, Aurobindo and Rabindranath Tagore. “Our heroes like Rajendra Prasad, Jawaharlal Nehru, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Lal Bahadur Shastri fought for our independence and molded our country,” he said.
