Indian American Congressman Shri Thanedar was recently appointed as Ranking Member of the Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Regulations. Thanedar who has been appointed in his freshman term, also serves as the Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security.
“I am grateful to Ranking Member Velázquez for trusting me with this important leadership position,” said Congressman Thanedar. He added that he is committed to improving the lives of hard-working families across Metro Detroit in these leadership roles. Thanedar represents the 13th Congressional District, which includes Wayne County including the city of Detroit, Grosse Pointe, and Downriver. Thanedar, who was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 2022 elections, says he is passionate about fighting to improve the lives of hard-working families in metro Detroit.
Thanedar has introduced several legislations to assist small businesses. The One Stop Shop for Small Business Licensing Act, was introduced by him. The law aims to restructure the licensing process and reduce the costs of obtaining licenses and permits that would lower the hurdles faced by entrepreneurs who wish to establish small businesses. He was also behind introduction of the Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act to support apprenticeship programs through small business development centers. This initiative is aimed at providing small businesses with the resources to offer more apprenticeships and job opportunities to workers.
The entrepreneur-turned-politician said: “The decision of Velázquez to make me the only freshman in this Congress to be a Ranking Member on two subcommittees is a testament to the hard work I am doing on behalf of my constituents across Metro Detroit. Having experienced the challenges of running a small business myself, I recognize the urgent need to cut through the jargon of the bureaucracy and provide clear, concise, and accessible information and regulations to our nation’s small business owners. In this new role, I look forward to continuing my focus on the real-world issues that affect our country’s small businesses: capital access, a strong workforce, and creating easy to understand regulations.”
