DC plane crash: No survivors found, says official

iNDICA NEWS BUREAU-

There are no known survivors after a passenger jet and a Black Hawk helicopter collided mid-air on Wednesday, January 29, and crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., officials confirmed.

District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Chief John Donnelly reported Thursday morning that 27 bodies had been recovered from the plane, American Eagle Flight No. 5342, which carried 60 passengers and four crew members.

One body was recovered from the Sikorsky H-60 helicopter, which had three soldiers aboard.

“We don’t believe there are any survivors,” Donnelly told reporters in a news briefing.

The operation has shifted from rescue to recovery.

Mayor Muriel Bowser said, “I speak for all of us when I say, and certainly all Washingtonians, how, very sad we are. This morning we all share in a profound sense of grief. I do want to thank the first responders who acted quickly last night, who ran towards danger, went into a very frigid river, and have worked throughout the night.”
