Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia has received a nomination in the Best Director category for All We Imagine As Light at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
The film, rated highly by critics, has also picked up a nomination in the Best Motion Picture in a Non-English Language category.
The nominations were announced on December 9, by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut.
With this, Kapadia has become the first director from India to bag a nomination in the Best Director category at the Golden Globe Awards.
The other nominees include Jacques Audiard for Emilia Pérez; Sean Baker, Anora; Edward Berger for Conclave; Brady Corbet for The Brutalist; and Coralie Fargeat for The Substance.
Kapadia film was recently named the best international film by the New York Film Critics Circle award as well as the Gotham Awards.
The prestigious Sight and Sound magazine has also selected All We Imagine As Light as the best film of 2024.
The film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha and Chhaya Kadam.
It explores love, longing and loneliness in the bustling city of Mumbai through three women, two Malayali nurses — Prabha and Anu — and their friend Parvati.
The buzz around Kapadia’s film began after it won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival earlier in May.
Despite all the critical acclaim, All We Imagine As Light has not been picked up to represent India at the Oscars by the selection committee in the county. It selected Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies instead.
