ED to question Sonia Gandhi third time today, Congress calls it harassment

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), India’s top financial crimes investigation agency, will question Congress Party interim president Sonia Gandhi for a third time Wednesday at 11 am IST in the money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper.

She was questioned for six hours on Tuesday with with a lunch break in between. Her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will accompany her with a medicine box.

Sonia Gandhi’s statement is is being recorded by a team led by additional director Monika Sharma.

In light of Sonia Gandhi’s ailment, Priyanka Gandhi has been allowed to be present in the ED office, but in another room in case her mother needs any medicine.

Her party officials have alleged that Sonia Gandhi was being harassed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at the behest of the government. At a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “She is not keeping well for many years. When the same things were asked to Rahul Gandhi for five days what was the need for this?”

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of the Indian parliament) Mallikarjun Kharge said, “ED is harassing our leader despite her not keeping well.” Another MP, K Suresh, gave an adjournment notice for Wednesday in the Lok Sabha on the misuse of ED.
