Eminent Indian-American tech expert named Chair of IEEE Silicon Valley Chapter


The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), one of the largest technical societies in the world has appointed an Indian American to head its Silicon Valley chapter.

Dr. Vishnu S. Pendyala, a faculty member of the Department of Applied Data Science, San Jose State University, will overlook the chief responsibilities of the organization for 2022.

He takes over from Dr. Dejan Milojicic, who served as the President of the IEEE Computer Society.

IEEE has more than 375,000 members in 150 nations. The society publishes 30 percent of the global technical literature in electrical and computer engineering. The organization was formed in 1963 through a merger of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) and the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE).

The IEEE Computer Society is the world’s home for computer science, engineering, and technology. A global leader in providing access to computer science research, analysis, and information, the IEEE Computer Society offers a comprehensive array of unmatched products, services, and opportunities for individuals at all stages of their professional careers.

Known as the premier organization that empowers the people who drive technology, the IEEE Computer Society offers international conferences, peer-reviewed publications, a unique digital library, and training programs.

Within this elite tech society, the Santa Clara Valley Chapter is the largest chapter, that has over 4,000 subscribers in its mailing list, 1,400+ paid members and a strong following of over 12,300 on Twitter.

To chair such a society is an honorable responsibility for Dr. Pendyala, who over two decades of the software experience with industry leaders like Cisco, Synopsys, Informix (now IBM), and Electronics Corporation of India Limited, and is also a Distinguished Speaker of the ACM.

Dr. Pendyala taught a one-week course sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, under the GIAN program in 2017.

He has written and edited several industry-acclaimed books which are a part of major libraries of ivy league universities including those of MIT, Harvard, Stanford, CMU, and internationally.

Books titled, “Veracity of Big Data using Machine Learning and other techniques,” and “Tools and Techniques for Software Development in Large Organizations” are frequented by students who are interested in machine learning and software development.

He is currently in the process of writing a book on Machine Learning and editing another one on a related topic.

Dr. Pendyala received the Ramanujam memorial gold medal at State Math Olympiad and has been a successful leader during his undergrad years. He also played an active role in the Computer Society of India and was the Program Secretary for its annual convention, which was attended by over 1500 delegates.

He received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Santa Clara University and holds BE(CSE), MBA(Fin.), and MS (Comp. Eng’g) degrees from Indian and US universities.
