Organizers of all types of events, from the biggest international concerts and conferences to the smallest community gatherings, are facing hard questions about whether to carry on as planned.

As soon after coronavirus (COVID-19) was confirmed as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the list of the canceled events started growing by the day.

TiE Silicon Valley, a nonprofit entrepreneur’s annual convention “TiEcon 2020” has been postponed, the event, which was supposed to be held on May 8 and 9 announced the TiE President B J Arun on March 11, just after President Trump’s national speech on the COVID-19 outbreak.

Arun through a press note said – Santa Clara County, where our Convention Center is located, has currently put a ban on mass gatherings of 1,000 or more people. Many organizations are asking their employees to not travel, attend large gatherings, and work from home. The decision was taken as a precautionary step and TiE leadership team has decided to postpone TiEcon 2020 to a later date.

TiECon is a key networking and mentor-seeking conclave for startups, and at the same time, it brings investors in touch with a range of founders looking for funding. The event has attracted over 60,000 entrepreneurs and professionals from over 50 countries in the past. Last year alone, there were over 4,000 participants from 22 countries.

Arun told  indica, “We had been monitoring developments very carefully and based on all of the data points, this was the responsible decision to make.”

Though the event has been postponed until further notice, however, the agenda, theme, tracks will continue to remain the same.

“Most of the events that were scheduled to happen over the next couple of months have all been rescheduled to later in the year so availability of venues is becoming very difficult.  Plus we have to also coordinate with the calendars of VIP speakers like Indra Nooyi, etc”, he added.

Organizers also said that they are committed to doing our part to ensure the safety of our attendees, staff, and community. The official statement also said, “If you are registered for this event in any capacity, please lookout for an email from us with additional details.”
