Fight against Modi more important: Sam Pitroda after stepping down as IOC Chairman

iNDICA NEWS BUREAU-

Veteran Congressman Sam Pitroda, facing fire over a string of controversial statements in the recent past, stepped down as the Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) on Wednesday.

Shan Shankaran, General Secretary (West Coast) of the IOC, told indica that Pitroda wants all of us to fight against Modi, and not to save him.

“Sam’s decision to resign as chairman Indian Overseas Congress is to help Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party stay focused on the fight against fascism, and not to allow everyone to keep fighting over him,”Shan told indica. Sam doesn’t want the fight to derail ‘into stories from the right wing on him every day, with them digging all his open talks and giving it a new color’.

“Sam will continue to write, talk in his personal capacity; championing the causes of fighting Modi, his crony boss Adani, and fascism,” Shan added saying he had a long chat with Pitroda.

Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh took to X to inform about Pitroda’s decision and said that he did it of his own accord. He also said that the Congress has accepted Pitroda’s resignation, IANS reported.

Speaking to The Statesman, Pitroda made a statement that has stirred a hornet’s nest. “A diverse country, where people in the East look like Chinese, people on the West look like Arabs, people on the North look like maybe white and people in the South look like of Africa,” Pitroda said, drawing anger and outrage from BJP and other political parties.

The Congress also took exception to Pitroda’s remarks on the “colour of citizens” and termed it “unfortunate and unacceptable”.

Deeply embarrassed with his statement, Jairam Ramesh, earlier in the day, wrote, “The Indian National Congress completely dissociates itself from such analogies, they are most unfortunate and unacceptable.”
