iNDICA NEWS BUREAU-
Tulsi Gabbard, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, expressed her excitement about strengthening U.S.-India relations in a post on X.
On Friday, she wrote, “It was an honor to welcome India’s Prime Minister @narendramodi back to the United States, and I look forward to continuing to strengthen the U.S.-India friendship.”
Her message came in response to Prime Minister Modi’s post about their meeting on Wednesday. In his post, Modi shared, “Met USA’s Director of National Intelligence, @TulsiGabbard in Washington DC. Congratulated her on her confirmation. Discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship, of which she’s always been a strong votary.”
Gabbard, who had been confirmed earlier that day, was the first major visitor to meet Modi during his recent trip. She met him at Blair House, just hours after taking the oath of office.
A seasoned India advocate, Gabbard had developed a strong relationship with the Prime Minister during her time in Congress. As co-chair of the U.S. House of Representatives’ India Caucus, she was an avid supporter of deeper ties between the two nations. Modi had even sent gifts to her wedding in 2015 through an emissary in Hawaii.
Interestingly, the Trump administration has two former co-chairs of the India Caucus. Alongside Gabbard, Mike Waltz, now the National Security Advisor, also served as co-chair during his time in the House as a Republican.
Following Gabbard’s visit, Prime Minister Modi hosted Waltz on Thursday morning, and later welcomed billionaire Elon Musk, who visited with his family, including his son, X. The Prime Minister’s third notable visitor was entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who also met him at Blair House.
