An aide on Sen. Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign staff resigned last month, writing in her resignation letter that she had  “never seen an organization treat its staff so poorly,” according to The New York Times.

Kelly Mehlenbacher, state operations director who was working on her third presidential campaign, penned the screed after staff layoffs and the growing perception that the campaign was rudderless and faltering, the Times reported.

“With less than 90 days until Iowa we still do not have a real plan to win,” Mehlenbacher wrote in the letter that criticized Harris’ sister and campaign chair Maya and campaign manager Juan Rodriguez, according to The Times story published Friday.

“While I still believe that Senator Harris is the strongest candidate to win in the General Election in 2020 no longer have confidence in our campaign or its leadership,” Mehlenbacher wrote in the Nov. 11 letter. “The treatment of our staff over the last two weeks was the final straw in this very difficult decision.”

Harris, at one time seen as a top contender, has lost traction in the field of Democratic candidates for the party’s 202  presidential nomination, the Times reported.

The Times spoke with more than 50 current and former campaign staff members and allies who describe a campaign in disarray, in part, because Harris and her top  advisers have made poor decisions about focusing on opponents, issues, and personnel choices.
