The state of Illinois celebrated Indian-American Veterans recently following an executive order from Governor on J. B. Pritzker, which designated June 25, 2024 as Indian-American (India) Veterans Appreciation Day.
The designation aims at recognizing and honoring the service of veterans from the Indian-American community — which, according to a recent report, is one of the best performing diasporas in the USA — and acknowledging their work across various sectors in the country.
Reacting to the development, Chris Aryan of the Indo-American Veterans Organization, told indica that it’s a step towards getting the President’s recognition.
The IAVO.US, founded by Aryan in 2021, has been instrumental in getting the proclamation from the state governor. “So, this is a proud moment and someday I will reach the point of having the President of the United States doing the same,” he told indica.
An official press release from IAVO.US quoted Aryan as saying: “This organization is unprecedented in American history. As the inaugural institution of its kind, we stand at the dawn of a new chapter. We seek the community’s support to bring this vision to life. Every contribution propels us closer to establishing the IAVO Museum in Chicago, a testament to our veterans’ legacy.”
The organization, located in Little India on Devon Ave., in Chicago, also thanked Consul General of India in Chicago, Somnath
Ghosh, for his support in getting the designation.
