On Thursday, there was a big spike in the number of coronavirus cases in India with 27 fresh cases reported from 14 states.

What measures are being taken by India to contain the spread of coronavirus:

Here are some of the strict measures taken by the Indian government to contain the spread of the Coronavirus:

  1. A unique Janata curfew will be held on the 22nd March, Sunday. People have been requested to remain in their houses starting 7 am to 9 pm.
  2. MEA has asked people stranded outside India to remain where they are and Indian missions abroad are trying their best to provide them with all the support.
  3. No international flights will be allowed to land in India starting 22nd March for a week. The decision to ban international flights was made soon after a man from Punjab was reported to have died of coronavirus infection.
  4. The central government has also come up with a work-from-home policy for its employees, while private companies have been asked to instruct their employees to work from home.

Millions could die worldwide if Coronavirus is not contained.

Meanwhile the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that millions could die if the spread of the virus remains unchecked.

“If we let the virus spread like wildfire — especially in the most vulnerable regions of the world — it would kill millions of people,” he said.

At the moment, Coronavirus has claimed over 9000 lives and more than 217,000 are infected with the virus worldwide.
