The Indian American doctor who is the CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan has been appointed to the board of directors of Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans. The charitable trust provides merit-based funding for New Americans, immigrants, and children of immigrants, who are poised to make significant contributions to U.S. culture, society, and academia.
Sachin Jain is a Harvard-trained physician and a well-known thought leader in the healthcare sector. This 2004 Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow received his MD, MBA from Harvard University. With a background in medicine and healthcare management, the trust aims to use Jain’s expertise to enhance the Fellowship’s mission to support outstanding immigrants and children of immigrants as they pursue higher education in the United States.
The current Board of Directors includes Allison Binns (2003 Fellow), Eric Chung (2016 Fellow), Peter Georgescu, Paul Holdengräber, Ann Kirschner, Noel Lateef, Daisy M. Soros, Jeffrey Soros, and Peter Soros. Board members advise the Fellowship on matters relating to grant-making, eligibility, selection, educational focus, community building, governance, and professional standards. Every year the trust awards 30 Fellows up to $90,000 to pursue their professional passions across a breadth of disciplines at the graduate institutions of their choice.

His experience as a Fellow and his expertise will be invaluable as we continue to identify and empower the next generation of exceptional New American leaders,” Ms. Daisy Soros, the president of the Fellowship, said.
With revenues topping $4.8 billion, SCAN serves more than 300,000 members. Since joining SCAN in 2020, Sachin has launched a range of new products—including SCAN Affirm (HMO), the first-ever LGBTQ+ health plan product, and SCAN Inspired (HMO), the first health plan designed specifically for women—and expanded its operations into Arizona, Nevada, Texas, and New Mexico. SCAN has also launched four subsidiary medical groups intended to support seniors through the full range of inflection points in the aging process. In a little over three years, SCAN’s total revenues have grown by more than $1.5 billion.
Before joining SCAN, Jain was the president and CEO of CareMore Health and Aspire Health from 2015-2020. There he developed the first scaled clinical program in the world focused on loneliness and social isolation. Before CareMore, Sachin was the chief medical information & innovation officer at Merk & Co. and was also an attending physician at the Boston VA-Boston Medical Center and a member of the faculties at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School. Previously, he held leadership roles in the Department of Health and Human Services focusing on Medicare and Medicaid services.
