Indian American CEO of US firm dies in freak accident in Ramoji Film City of Hyderabad

The CEO of software firm Vistex which is headquartered in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, died in a freak accident during the company’s silver jubilee celebrations at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad on Thursday, January 18. The president of the firm also sustained grievous injuries in the incident.

Sanjay Shah, 56, the CEO of Vistex, and president of the firm, Raju Datla, entered a metal cage at 7:40 pm, which was being lowered from a height with the help of ropes and pulleys to kick off the silver jubilee celebration.

One portion of the iron chains that were holding up the cage broke and the metal box plummeted 15 feet to the concrete dais below, critically injuring both. Vistex had booked accommodations for its staff at the Ramoji Film City and had planned to hold silver jubilee celebrations over two days.

When they were taken to a hospital, Shah died while under treatment, while Datla’s condition is stated to be critical. A police complaint was registered against the Film City event management company by an official of Vistex.

Shah, who is originally from Mumbai, had set up Vistex to provide revenue management solutions and allied services in 1999. The tech entrepreneur who is the founder, CEO & Chief Architect of the software company, aimed to transform the operations of organizations by helping them improve their product introduction and services in the market by taking control of mission-critical processes. He had identified a void in ERP and established the firm to create a new category of enterprise software. Vistex now has 20 global offices and 2,000+ employees.

The firm also provides grants to nonprofit organizations focusing on health, education, and basic needs. Vistex Endeavor is an employee-focused charity centered on volunteerism. To satiate his passion for learning, and as an alumnus of Lehigh University, Shah founded the Vistex Institute for Executive Learning and Research in his alma mater.
