Well known Indian-American scientist and inventor Dr. Rajiv Joshi has won the prestigious “Inventor Of The Year” award in recognition of his pioneering work in the advancement of the electronic industry and enhancing the Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Dr. Joshi has been known as a master inventor and has over 250 patented inventions under his name in the US. He works at the IBM Thomson Watson Research Center in New York, Analytics India Mag.
He won the award for contributions to predictive failure analytics, Very-large-scale integration memory design, and chip interconnect technology.
The annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to emerging technologies in recent years.
It is named in honor of Daniel E. Noble, who is significantly known for the design and installation of the nation’s first statewide two-way radio communications system. The system was the first in the world to use FM technology.
Dr Joshi is an IIT Mumbai alumnus, has an MS degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a PhD in mechanical/electrical engineering from Columbia University, New York.
Dr Joshi, in his acceptance speech, said that cloud, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing not only remain the buzzwords, but their utility, widespread usage is advancing with leaps and bounds. “All these areas are very exciting, and I have been dabbling further in artificial intelligence and quantum computing,” he said.
He further said that quantum computing has huge potential but has numerous challenges. Dr Joshi is committed to making progress in quantum computing and artificial intelligence in the coming years to advance the science.
He has led successfully predictive failure analytic techniques for yield prediction. Several novel algorithms were developed to predict rare failure events which are orders of magnitude fast and accurate over conventional techniques.
Such algorithms have potential applications in financial sector, health science and other data analytics applications related to cognitive, Internet of Things (IoT).
He pushed technology-circuit co-design concept from bulk, SOI to FinFET technologies to generate novel high performance, low power storage memories.
In a recent interview, Dr Joshi said “Necessity and curiosity inspire me; the identification of problems and out of the box solutions as well as observation and thinking help immensely to generate ideas. One of the many Dr Joshi’s motivation is the stories that his parents told him while growing up. The stories mostly were related to renowned inventors like Guglielmo Marconi, Right Brothers, Madame Curie, James Watt, and other great stalwarts.
