Indian-American Kashyap Pramod Vinod “Kash” Patel was officially sworn in as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Friday, February 21, taking the oath on the Bhagavad Gita.
Surrounded by his girlfriend and family, Patel recited the oath with his loved ones by his side, and other family members seated in the front row.
The ceremony took place at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi administering the oath after Patel’s confirmation by the U.S. Senate, where he succeeded Christopher Wray.
Upon his swearing-in, Patel expressed that he was living the American dream. He remarked, “A first-generation Indian is about to lead the law enforcement agency of the greatest nation on earth,” emphasizing that his achievement reflected the opportunity America offers. “Anyone who thinks the American dream is dead, look right here,” he added.
Patel also promised to ensure accountability both within the FBI and beyond. “I promise there will be accountability within the FBI and outside of it,” he said.

Trump highlighted Patel’s respect among FBI agents, stating, “He will go down as the best ever at that position.” Trump added that Patel’s confirmation was supported by respected figures, including Trey Gowdy, who called Patel “an incredible person”.
The White House celebrated Patel’s confirmation, viewing it as a crucial step in executing President Trump’s agenda to restore integrity and uphold the rule of law. The White House emphasized that under Patel’s leadership, the FBI will refocus on its core mission of fair and unbiased justice.
Patel, an ally of President Trump, thanked both Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi for their support. Despite facing opposition from Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, Patel’s confirmation passed with a narrow 51-49 vote, with most Republican senators backing him.
