Indian American man dies as Tesla crashes into Fremont apartment building

An Indian American man died after the Tesla he was driving, crashed into an apartment building in Fremont, California.

As per officials, the fatal accident took place on Monday night, October 14, forcing evacuations and sparking a fire.

The deceased was identified as 46-year-old Kamleshkumar Patel by Alameda County Coroner on Tuesday, October 15. Patel was a resident of Fremont.

Cops said the incident took place on the 44700 block of Old Warm Springs Boulevard. According to fire department officials, no one else was injured as the portion of the building where the car crashed was empty. However, the crash caused a fire in the building.

“The vehicle caught fire while it was still in the building, so out of caution we evacuated the entire building for everyone’s safety,” Fire Battalion Chief Dan Brunicardi said, as quoted by KTVU. “Then we decided to pull the vehicle out once we got the fire knocked down enough to pull the vehicle out of the building.”

The vehicle was already on fire by the time officials reached the spot. Three floors above an unoccupied commercial space was evacuated by a joint team of cops and fire department.

While an investigation is underway, preliminary probe found the vehicle was traveling south on Old Warm Springs Blvd. when the driver lost control and crashed.

As per police records, this was the 10th fatal traffic collision in 2024 in the Californian city.
