Indian American Sitar Player Anushka Shankar Nominated for 2021 Grammy Award

Indian American musician and daughter of legendary Late Pandit Ravi Shankar, Anoushka Shankar has been nominated for the 2021 Grammy Awards for the 7th time now.

She has been nominated under the Best Global Music Album category. Reacting to the news, she came on twitter and tweeted, “We did it! I can’t believe Love Letters has been nominated for a Grammy!!! Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey both within and behind the music. Love you so much!!!”

Her EP ‘Love Letters’, released earlier in 2020, is a collection of songs about love, heartbreak, and healing. It features artists such as Ibeyi Alev Lenz, Shilpa Rao, and Ayanna Witter-Johnson. She has received six Grammy Award nominations, previously.

Shilpa Rao, an Indian Singer who had teamed up with Anoushka on the track “Those words”, was excited to be nominated and thanked Anoushka saying, “This week is very special as the album ‘Love Letters’ by Anoushka Shankar, in which I have a very sweet song ‘Those words’, has been nominated for 63rd Grammy Awards,” said Shilpa.

“Anoushka Shankar, what should I say, thank you for all the love and hard work you have put into this album and thank you so much for this beautiful collaboration. Big love to everyone who is part of this album. This is one step closer to the dream,” she added.

Along with Anoushka, her half-sister Norah Jones has also been nominated for her song ‘I’ll Be Gone’ with Mavis Staples under the Best American Roots Performance.
