Indian-American woman charged with first-degree cruelty to children

An Indian-American woman from Homerville, Georgia, was charged with felony after she took her
unresponsive infant to the hospital and doctors found that the child had a number of injuries. According
to the Homerville Police Department (HPD), the police were informed about the incident on December
25 and were called to the hospital about a cruelty to children incident.

Twenty-six year old Tarlikaben Bhuatel Bheil Patel, brought an unresponsive 2-month-old to Clinch
Memorial Hospital, police told the media. According to Walb News 10, the hospital staff worked to
resuscitate the infant but had get him airlifted to an out of state hospital after their efforts proved futile.

According to the police, the infant was found with multiple blunt force trauma injuries to its body. It was
also found that the infant suffered traumatic, irreversible brain injuries, which left the infant in a life-
threatening coma. The Homerville Police Department said they are asking for prayer for the infant and
said the victim is not expected to survive.

The investigation, along with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, resulted in Patel’s
arrest. Patel was charged with first degree cruelty to children and is in Clinch County jail Georgia in a
non-bailable arrest.

Police further said that if the infant dies, the district attorney will be consulted for possible upgraded
charges.
