Indian American woman dies in car crash, husband critical; Fundraiser to help family

iNDICA NEWS BUREAU-

A 30-year-old Indian American woman died in a car crash on Thanksgiving Day, on November 24 on a rural Alameda County road. Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau later identified the woman as Sreeja Nagirimadugu. Her husband was also injured in a road accident and is battling death at a hospital.

The incident took place just after 12:50 p.m., and California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of the collision at Altamont Pass and Northfront roads. When the officers reached the spot, they found that a blue Honda Civic sedan and a silver Toyota Prius had met with a head-on collision.

According to the officers, the Honda was driving eastbound on Altamont Pass when it crashed into the Toyota, driving westbound. Sreeja had suffered grievous injuries and though the officers provided emergency life-saving measures at the scene, with help from arriving Alameda County Fire Department firefighters, she was pronounced dead despite their efforts.

Sreeja’s husband, the Honda’s driver, had suffered major injuries, while the driver of the Toyota and a 16-year-old passenger sustained minor to moderate injuries. The roadway was closed to traffic to allow for investigation and evidence recovery.

Sreeja had moved to the United States just over a month ago to join her husband who was already here working.

A fundraiser drive has been initiated on the gofundme website by Praveen Reddy Kasireddy. “I am setting up the fundraising for Sreeja Nagirimadugu. Sreeja moved to the United States in October, 2022 to join her husband, Revanth, after getting married early this year,” Kasireddy said in his fundraiser.

Referring to the car accident, the fundraiser says, “Sreeja passed away before she was taken to the hospital and her husband needed emergency surgeries and is still in hospital making slow progress in recovery.”

“Sreeja was an exemplary individual known for her hard work, responsibility, love for her family, and passion to explore the world. Sreeja worked in India for over 8 years before moving to the USA last month to start married life here in the USA. Her death is a tragic loss to her family, friends, colleagues, and anyone who has met her or known her. She has left family and friends in great sorrow.”

“Currently, the repatriation process is underway to send her to her home country, India, where her parents are going through an agonizing wait for the arrival of her mortal remains. Cremation rituals and ceremonies are scheduled in India upon her arrival. To extend support to Sreeja and her family, this page is set up to collect funds. All funds shall be used to support her parents, family and celebrate her life the way she deserves,” Kasireddy says.
