Several eminent Indian-American groups in the United States have raised funds and have deployed volunteers to help community members against the fast-spreading coronavirus pandemic. More than 600,000 have been infected with the fast-spreading pandemic. In the US, 140,000 people are infected and 2,475 have died of the coronavirus infection. In India, currently, there are 1000 infected people and 27 dead of coronavirus infection.
Coronavirus Relief by Indian Americans
Several people and organizations such as SEWA International, have come forward. The NGO has raised USD 250,000 for the relief efforts. The money is being used for buying protective equipment such as facial masks and surgical masks for its COVID-19 relief efforts.
New York-based hotelier couple K K and Chandra Mehta announced Rs.1 crore for the PM”s Citizenship Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARE). The couple has also donated another 11 lakh rupees for masks and food packets for people in their home state in India, Rajasthan.
Chandrakant Patel who is based in Tampa, Florida said that he will help distribute food packets for 300 families in Chhattisgarh for next three months.
Amit Banerjee who resides in Boston says that he is sponsoring 20 laborers for next three months in Bangalore.
Patel brothers have a chain of grocery stores in the US that says that they are helping local authorities distribute grocery and food items.
Federation of Indian Associations is distributing food packets for the needy in Boston.
Various Sikh Gurudwara and Sikh organizations have opened community kitchens and distributed free food to needy in Seattle, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and other parts of the US.
Bihar and Jharkhand Association of North America is running a video awareness program for people back home in local languages.
It’s great to see so many people including Indian Americans coming forward in a very difficult time. They are not only helping people locally but also people back in India especially in their home states.
