Indian Embassy in USA to commemorate Hindi Diwas with speech contest

The Indian Embassy in Washington DC announced recently that it’s hosting a Hindi Speaking Contest to commemorate Vishwa Hindi Diwas (World Hindi Day), which is annually observed on January 10.

The event is being co-organized by International Hindi Association (IHA) and will allow all high school students in America, studying in grades 9 to 12, to take part.

Even those who are home-schooled will be able to participate in the contest.

According to the contest rules, participants can take part in two categories — Essay and Short story.

In the essay category, participants will have to speak on either of the topics: Bharatiya Sanskriti aur Paramparaye (Indian culture and tradition), and America Mai Rehne Wale Yuva Hindi Kyun Sikhe? (Why should the youth living in America learn Hindi?).

In the short story category, participants will need to write a story based on their own personal experience. It could be an anecdote or a memoir.

As per the rules, all submissions need to be in the MP4 format. Participants will need to record their material in upto three minutes and sent it to the organizers for evaluation. The language for all entries is Hindi.

The registration deadline is January 3. The last date of submission is January 8. On January 10, the winners will be announced.

According to the organizers, three winners from each category will be awarded by the Indian Embassy in Washington, DC.

The winning submissions will be published in IHA’s quarterly journal ‘Vishwa’.
