An Indian electrical engineer is being treated at a hospital after he was shot at by unidentified robbers in Detroit, Michigan.
A resident of Telangana, Sai Krishna was returning from work in Detroit Downtown when miscreants opened fire and fled with his wallet and car.
The authorities were alerted after a passer-by found him on the roadside with bullet injuries in freezing conditions.
“The robbers first stopped and barged in his car and made him drive to an isolated place. They robbed his car, wallet and other belongings and left him on an empty street in freezing temperatures. Someone passing by saw him on the road and informed the authorities,” a friend of Sai Krishna was quoted as saying in an NDTV news report.
He was attacked on January 3 but the incident came to light recently.
The incident comes just after Ronil Singh, a police officer of Indian descent, was fatally shot by an unidentified illegal immigrant while he was conducting a traffic stop.
Sai Krishna has to now undergo multiple surgeries and complicated medical procedures to recover, according to reports.
Sai Krishna completed his B Tech from a private college in Hyderabad in 2014. Before leaving for the US, he worked as a validation engineer in Tech Mahindra in Hyderabad for ten months.
He completed post graduation in Electrical Engineering from Lawrence Tech University, Southfield, Michigan, and recently started work with an automotive company in Detroit Downtown.
His father Poosa Yellaiah is a teacher and his mother Shailaja a homemaker.
Since Sai Krishna doesn’t have health insurance and has a lot of student debt, his friends and people from the Indian community have launched an online campaign on Gofundme.com for raising funds for rehabilitation support.
So far, the campaign has received US$ 124,738 out of the US$ 250,000 sought and the campaign is trending.
Sai Krishna will be out of the job for more than six months for rehabilitation.
