India’s health minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced Monday that 90 per cent of the country’s adult population has been vaccinated with both doses against Covid-19.
Mandaviya tweeted, “What an extraordinary feat! With PM @NarendraModi Ji’s mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Prayas, India achieves complete vaccination of 90 per cent of its adult population. Way to go! We will win the battle against the pandemic together!”
A health ministry report said that India has administered 558.357 million first doses and 502.261 million second doses in the 18-45 age group. The number of precaution (booster) doses administered in this group was 3,240,839, the report said.
India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage touched 1.98 billion doses till 7am Indian Standard Time (IST) Monday.
So far, nearly 37 million teenagers have been administered with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, India recorded 16,135 new cases of Covid-19 infection along with 24 deaths in the past 24 hours. An increase of 2,153 cases has also been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in the same period. India’s total active caseload rose to 113,864, health ministry data showed.
