Indian lawmaker Manickam Tagore on Thursday submitted an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha to discuss the recent deportation of over 100 Indian nationals by the United States government.
The Congress MP, in his notice, expressed his shock over the deportations, describing the treatment of the Indian nationals, identified as illegal immigrants, as a violation of human rights. He also raised concerns over the lack of significant intervention from the Indian government in the matter.
“This process not only reflects an utter disregard for human rights but also raises serious diplomatic concerns. These actions are being carried out without significant intervention from the Indian government, which has remained largely silent on the matter,” Tagore stated.

Tagore called for clarification on the steps being taken by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to protect Indian citizens abroad. He also questioned why the Indian government was not consulted about the use of military aircraft for deportation and what measures were being taken to ensure the safety and dignity of those being deported.
The Congress MP demanded an explanation from the Minister of External Affairs regarding the government’s stance and the actions being taken to address the situation.
A U.S. Air Force plane carrying Indian nationals who allegedly immigrated illegally to the US arrived in Amritsar, Punjab, on Wednesday.
Earlier, a spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy had stated that while specific details could not be disclosed, the United States is actively enforcing its immigration laws. The spokesperson emphasized that the actions taken were meant to send a “clear message” that illegal migration is not worth the risk.
“I have received a number of inquiries on the report of a deportation flight to India. I can’t share any details on those inquiries, but I can share, on the record, that the United States is vigorously enforcing its border, tightening immigration laws, and removing illegal migrants. These actions send a clear message: illegal migration is not worth the risk,” the U.S. Embassy representative said.
