An Indian man, his daughter-in-law and granddaughter drowned accidentally Monday in their backyard swimming pool in East Brunswick, New Jersey, police have confirmed.
The three were identified as Bharat Patel, 62, Nisha Patel, 33, and Nisha’s 8-year-old daughter.
They lived on Clearview Road and were apparently new to the town.
Their deaths were declared as accidental by the Middlesex County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, reported MyCentralJersey.
“It’s such an extraordinarily sad thing to happen, especially for a new family that recently moved to East Brunswick,” the website quoted mayor Brad Cohen as saying.
A neighbor of the Patels had reportedly called 911 around 4:18pm Monday on hearing screams. The East Brunswick police found three members of the family unresponsive in the pool. They were pronounced dead shortly after.
