Following wins in special elections, two Indian-American Democrats have been elected to Virginia’s general assembly, according to reports.
JJ Singh (44) was elected to the 26th House District on Tuesday, January 7.
The same day also saw Kannan Srinivasan (58) being elected to the 32nd Senate District of the state’s Loudoun County.
Reports, citing unofficial results from the Loudoun office of elections and voter registration, said Srinivasan secured 18,144 votes or 61% of the total votes. Singh, on the other hand, secured 6,112 votes, which is 61% of the total votes.
Srinivasan, a certified public accountant from Brambleton, said, “I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to continue serving our community. Thank you to every volunteer and my incredible team. Tonight, we celebrated. The 2025 Legislative Session begins, and we get right back to work!”
He took office in the House of Delegates in January 2024.
In his post election message, Singh said, “Thank you House District 26 for putting your trust in me — I am honored to represent the community that my family calls home. I’m ready to get to Richmond and get to work fighting for our values and deliver for Southeastern Loudoun County families!”
