iNDICA NEWS BUREAU-

The San Jose Police has arrested a 74-year-old man, Sital Singh Dosanjh, for gunning down his daughter-in-law Gurpreet Kaur Dosanjh because she wanted to divorce his son.

The incident took place on September 30, 2022, at approximately 6:13 pm at the parking lot of a Walmart in San Jose where the victim used to work. Police believe that Dosanjh killed his daughter-in-law, Gurpreet Kaur Dosanjh, possibly out of anger over her plans to divorce his son. The SJPD said that just before her murder a “frightened” Gurpreet Kaur had called up her uncle and had told him that her father-in-law was looking for her. She allegedly told her uncle that the suspect was in the parking lot in his black pickup truck and that he had traveled 150 miles to find her.

With help of surveillance video, SJPD Homicide Detectives have also been able to spot Dosanjh’s black Silverado pickup truck entering the parking lot, driving up near his daughter-in-law’s car, and then leaving the lot. With help of license plate reading cameras and surveillance cameras as well as Dosanjh’s cell phone records, the police have been able to track his movements as he returned to Fresno from San Jose.

Five hours after her frantic call, one of her co-workers at Walmart found Gurpreet Kaur’s body in the same parking lot. Police officers responded to the 5000 block of Almaden Expressway on a report of a person down in a vehicle. When they arrived, they found an adult female, who had at least one gunshot wound. The female victim was later pronounced dead at the scene of the crime.

The police said that the victim’s uncle helped them identify the suspect and told them that Gurpreet Kaur was in the process of divorcing her husband. SJPD officers and homicide detectives who had reached the scene of the crime obtained an arrest warrant for Sital Singh Dosanjh after identifying him as the suspect who was believed to be responsible for the homicide.

A media release from SJPD stated that during the course of the investigation, SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives determined that Dosanjh was the primary suspect in this homicide. Police then disseminated information about Dosanjh to allied law enforcement agencies.

The investigators then obtained a warrant for his arrest and took Dosanjh into custody on October 1, 2022, with the assistance of the Fresno Police Department and the Fresno County Gang Task Force. Dosanjh was arrested at his residence in Fresno and subsequently transported to San José and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for homicide.
